- I hope you survive the experience -
You have just reached the main site of World of Darkness:New York, an online RPG using White Wolf's StoryTeller System. The game is, surprisingly enough, set in New York and playing begins in the fall of 2000. Although I'm usually a big fan of the metaplot, I've introduced a few changes to keep players on their toes.
The Fall of New York to the Camarilla? Didn't succeed, the city is now divided between the Camarilla and the Sabbat. The Camarilla Prince Sharon Palmer and the Sabbat Archbishop has entered an uneasy truce, one which also includes most other supernaturals in the city. New York is now a free city, who's supernatural inhabitants have shook off all outside ties. There has been no repercussions from any organized group... Yet. It appears as for as long as the arrangement works, the powers that be are content to treat it as an interesting experiment.
The problems that arise, are supposed to be handled by The Council. A group of representatives from most splats in the city. So far, the city has been holdings it's collective breath and the Council spends their meetings bickering amongst themselves, taking sides and drawing lines in the metaphorical sand.
The horror beneath the city? Nobody knows. If there is something there, it's adapt enough at hiding itself that nobody have seen or sensed anything out of the ordinary.
The Technocracy? Not a single Technocrat in the city.
The seedier side of society is in upheaval, since the declaration of the Free City, the local Giovanni has been cut off from the outside world and the local crime syndicate sharks have got wiff of the metaphorical blood in the water. Everyone, from smalltime players like the charismatic Jamaican King Willie and Oyabun Ginzei of the Green Dragon Yakuza, to bigshots like the ruthless Oyabun Ikeda of the Inagawa-Kai and Don Sergione of La Cosa Nostra, are interested in taking what the Giovanni no longer has the strength to hold. Will New York become a new prohibition Chicago and if so, who'll rise to become the new Al Capone?
The sitting Mayor Randall Winston, doesn't exactly have a sterling record and many wonder if he can stay on for another term against newcommers like former DA Gavin Irons. But Irons, who worries many Shen because of his outspoken views against crime and promises to flood the streets with cops if he's elected mayor, has already been the victim of three assassination attempts and many wonder if he will be alive come election-time.
The game is mainly a social/political one, although there's enough nasties who's fallen to the Even Darker Side to keep things interesting for the action-driven players as well and a ways down the line, there will be excitement to be had for just about everyone who doesn't dive for cover and stays in said cover for a while...
